Voices of the Soil creates opportunities for people and their communities to hear the "voices of the soil" through:
- Community gardens
- School programs and curricula
- Story telling and sharing of indigenous and traditional knowledge
- Scientific field and laboratory research
- Local learning centres, education and outreach programs
- Partnership with government, local industry and communities
Some of the goals of Voices of the Soil are to provide people with community gardens and programs that encourage social activities, emotional healing, and creating a closer bond between people, their communities and nature. Voices of the Soil also aims to help heal damage caused urbanization and industrialization, and restore the natural biology within soil environments, in an effort to rebuild natural environments from the ground up.
Since 2000, Voices of the Soil has helped schools and communities establish:
- Gardens and Garden Programs: Backyards, school yards and community gardens to grow food and care for soil.
- City Farm Edmonton
- Plant Watch Gardens: Plant and tag plant watch indicators, and be part of the annual bloomtime count
- Natural Spaces: Landscape yards and fields to create a beneficial habitat for natural flora and fauna
- Youth Environmental Programs: Engaging youth in the natural environment by encouraging learning, demonstration and peer leadership. Hands on, age relevant programming at EcoClub and EcoCamp.
- EcoCamp Birthday Parties: Fun, entertaining activities for 8-12 years. A great way to celebrate a birthday while communing with nature.
- EnviroPerfect Solutions: Including EnviroPerfect Lawns
